Lines Baby Blanket

Lines is a simple baby blanket pattern knit diagonally from corner to corner, using increases and decreases. It is a simple pattern to follow, knit in garter stitch with a slip stitch running up the centre. Using Wild Earth Yarns DK (pictured in colourway Stone), you will end up with a beautifully rustic and minimalist baby blanket.

What you need:

- 3 x 100g skeins Wild Earth Yarns DK (please note the blanket uses all three skeins, so gauge is important. If you want to make the blanket larger, add a fourth skein.)

-Alternatively you need approx 750m of DK weight yarn

-4.5mm circular needles with an 80cm length cable

-Removable stitch marker (optional)

-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge: 19 stitches and 34 rows to 4”/10cm

Finished dimensions after blocking: 29” x 29” / 74cm x 74cm

Pattern:

Cast on three stitches.

Row 1 (WS): Knit

Row 2 (RS): k1, yo, k1 (place marker on this stitch), yo, k1

Row 3: k 2 (make sure you knit all  yo’s through the back loop to close up the hole formed), wyif, slip next stitch purl wise, move yarn to back ready to knit, k2.

Row 4: k1, yo, k to last stitch (when you knit the marked stitch, move the marker up), yo k1.

Row 5: knit to marked stitch, slip next stitch purl wise wyif, knit to end.

Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you have increased to 289 stitches, and piece measure approx. 71cm / 28” along-side edges (not from centre slipped stitch)

Start decreasing as follows:

Row 1 (RS): k1, ssk, knit to last three stitches, k2tog, k1

Row 2 (WS): knit to center marked stitch, sl1wyif, knit to end.

Repeat these two rows until 5 stitches remain.

Next RS row: ssk, k1, k2tog (3 stitches remain)

Cast off remaining three stitches knitwise.

Finishing:

Your blanket will be a slight rhombus shape after you cast off. To make your blanket square,  soak in lukewarm water and a bit of wool wash for 15mins. Squeeze out excess water and lay flat to dry. Use pins to gently shape blanket into correct dimensions.

Weave in loose ends.
